My name is Traci Oakes and I am happy and excited to be your new Assistant Principal this year at Goodview Elementary School!
I previously worked with Franklin County Public Schools for 21 years. I held various jobs during that time. I started out in 1994 as a reading tutor at Glade Hill Elementary and a paraprofessional in Kindergarten the following year at Snow Creek Elementary. I moved into the classroom as a Kindergarten teacher later that year after the class grew too large and was split. I stayed there until I moved to Lee M. Waid Elementary in 2000. I subsequently spent twelve years there as a classroom teacher in first and second grades. For the past four years, I have been an Instructional Coach at the same school serving teachers and students at all grade levels as well as planning parental involvement activities for our families.
I graduated from Roanoke College in 1993 with a Bachelors of Arts degree, majoring in psychology and minoring in education. I completed a Masters of Education degree with a concentration in leadership from Mary Baldwin in 2012 and then went on to earn an Educational Specialist degree in Administration from Virginia Tech in 2015.
I truly believe that together we will make a great team for your child and I am eager to meet everyone as we ready ourselves for a great year. Please never hesitate to contact me, my door is always open!
